Removal of graffiti from properties eliminates the visual taint of gang presence and crime while giving the streets back to the families and businesses of the Tenderloin. Each week, our service provider, San Francisco Clean City, dedicates 10 to 15 hours to removal of graffiti less than ten feet high. The CBD has an annual record of removing more than 2,500 graffiti tags from private properties, businesses and public spaces, and these efforts continue to cut down on blight and crime in the neighborhood.
In addition to daily sidewalk hand sweeps, Clean City also promptly removes hazardous waste, bulky items and needles using a dedicated lead sweeper, preventing dangerous materials from threatening the safety of residents and creating eyesores around the neighborhood. Over 20,000 such incidents were handled in the CBD last year, including the removal and safe disposal of 1,679 needles.
